< Erlang ~ Implementing a UDT-like protocol in Erlang |

Hi all, first time poster here:
I started learning erlang a few weeks ago and have been impressed by the language. It's requiring me to learn new ways of thinking and program design, but that's a different thread.
I'm trying to implement a UDT-like protocol over UDP in erlang for a FPS game server I'm writing to handle things like packet ordering and reliability, flow control, etc. without the overhead of TCP. Is there an existing open-source/free/cheap library that I can use for this? (Like Raknet/NeL for C++?) Or am I stuck rolling my own?
Second question: If I write a wrapper for a library like Raknet to handle UDP and then communicate via a port to the erlang server, am I giving anything up by doing it this way: i.e., am I going to take a massive performance hit vs. writing the protocol directly in erlang?

Hi archnem,
I have pretty much the same target  Since RakNet/NeL/enet are already around, I'd go for creating one or several C ports using these packages, covering message passing, ordering, etc. Then the erlang node can handle the logic stuff. The chances are you already have optimized C code for this task, so I wouldn't spend more time rewriting it in erlang (unless you want to learn how to write such a protocol handler in erlang, of course).
Of course, using C libraries also ensures the client can be developed in other, less sophisticated languages 
I'd love to hear more about this project
