What is the best way to start? I read Armstrong's book through once,
but did not do the exercises. Would doing that be the first thing to
do in learning erlyweb?

Did you get your application even running yet? I haven't started
trying to fix it yet.. I think the best way to learn erlyweb is just
to use it.. the erlyweb site itself boasts some decent documentation..
if only it worked for me

No, but I am literally running "sudo port install erlang" on this box,
so I think I am in for a bunch of waiting while that happens.
Meanwhile, I will start reading the docs.
Thinking of using erlybird, or VIM. What are you using?

Emacs working ok for me. I would suggest installing CEAN as it
includes erlang pre-packaged and i believe you can control what
version of erlang you have through CEAN. Then install erlyweb and yaws
through CEAN. I found some nifty tips over here:

I'm using emacs, but thinking of switching to textmate. It's useful to
have textmate or smultron for ErlTL files because although they don't
color the Erlang syntax, they colorize everything outside <% and %>.
I think the best way to learn is to create a simple app, like a blog
engine, referring back to Programming Erlang if you get stuck on
language issues.
Since you're just starting out, it would be useful to hear of the
areas where you think you're having the most trouble.
Cheers,
Yariv
