Hi,
I took the erlang-logo as an inspiration, thats where the red color
scheme came from and why the logo was lowercase, to match the "e" of
the logo. I agree the contrast was a bit too heavy, here is the second
shot on the layout, a blueish one: http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/6808/erlywebbluedj5.png
I hope you like this one better, else I would need some examples of
layouts you like to get the idea.
The order of the content can of course be changed to what you
suggested, I just copied the content for a first reference, also the
headline is just a placeholder because the slogan is in the logo, so
what you see is not what you get in the end. q:]
If you wonder about the highlighted documentation link, that is the
style for the active page, if you are on the frontpage, "home" will be
highlighted like that.
Regarding the documentation, I follow Simon |

Very nice layout and I like the blue colour scheme. I could be happy
with other low-contrast colour schemes as well, I'm quite partial to
green, but the blue is nice.

This layout is fine by me.

I like the sequence. When visiting the home page of a project, I
expect to have the project described and the reasons why I'd want to
use it right there front and centre on the home page. This layout does
just exactly that.

Thanks again, this is a nice improvement. The main suggestion I have
is to put the ErlyWeb logo in the top left.

The layout looks good. I may want to tweak the final design but
overall it looks nice. By the way, in case it wasn't obvious, if I use
this design there will be a link at the bottom to the designer's site.

I think this kind of layout targets newcomers but is rather static for
repeat visitors. The Django site does a pretty good job at balancing
out the new and static content I think, but it may be a bit too busy.

I may regret this but I can take a stab at it. The only condition is
that I'm allowed to ask lots of newbie questions in the process.
I'd start with "Download and Install" , move to "Hello ErlyWorld" and
then if I haven't been voted off the list, I'd try a first tutorial. I
don't even want to think beyond that right now.
How does that sound?
Where should the tutorial live? On the Erlyweb googlepages wiki or
perhaps over at Trapexit? Any thoughts?

That sounds fantastic. But I think that the tutorial is pretty
important; moving from Hello ErlyWorld to understanding things like
the components system was my biggest problem.

Understood, but I have to start right at the beginning and move up
from there. Perhaps, once the process is started we'll get more
volunteers, but even if not, I'll just keep going and work my way up
the stack.

That sounds like a good place. Do I need an extra id, or will my
google id be enough for creating and editing pages?

Not a problem. Email privately for my IM if you like, and I check this
mailing list (and this list is archived for other people to be able to
search, so the mailing list is a better place for most questions)

That's perfect. Try to keep notes of what you find are sticky points,
especially if you spend more than a few minutes looking for an answer
or have to ask about it, and mark those in any tutorials or HOW-TO's
you write. That way they can be filled in extra-detailed by you or
someone else, since if it takes you a while, it will probably take
someone else a while. Let no "that was my stupid mistake" stand in
your way of doing this! I wish I'd done that earlier on, since it's
easy to blame oneself or forget what's hard after one figures it out.

Yariv might have to give you write access. Yariv?

Of course! I also encourage people who are having problems to ask even
the most basic newbie questions. If people don't ask them, I can't
know what parts of ErlyWeb are hard to grok for newbies.

Sounds good. At the next step I would show how to use components, and
after that maybe ErlyDB.

Googlepages wiki sounds like the best choice at the moment.

Yes, those are good points. I also encourage you to put your rough
drafts on the wiki before you feel they are finished so other people
can jump in and help.

I have also been following Erlang and ErlyWeb for sometime now and
would like to help. If its ok I would also like to take a look at the
site design and see if I can help. I also have experience in the
teaching technology and technical writing. I would not mind spending
some time helping out with some tutorials. A few things to think
about when righting tutorials:
1. A hello world tutorial is always great to create but also keep in
mind eventually it might be nice to create learning scenarios based on
projects that highlight various aspects of ErlyWeb (and Erlang). An
Example of this could be something like this:
http://wiki.pylonshq.com/display/pylonscookbook/Getting+started+with+AJAX
2. It also may be a good idea to also add some visuals to the
tutorials (screen shots, screen casts, sample code to download).
I put together a basic beginners tutorial for getting started with a
web framework for my graduate thesis which might also help spark some
ideas for an ErlyWeb tutorial.
Simon - email me and I will also give you my IM and we can further
talk about the tutorial. I am sure I can help.

Made for quick reference...the logo still needs some love, e.g.
positioning and the e in web is too far away from the w:

This sounds great. Any help with tutorials and/or site design
