<  Advanced Erlang/OTP  ~  Bug in ODBC?

so I'm using mysql and their 5.1 odbc connector.
works find in python, with erlang it get

these types of errors with VARCHAR columns and ODBC_UNSUPPORTED_TYPE errors. googled around and didn't find any response with a solution. i found that if i rolled back to use the mysql 3.51 odbc drivers it fixes the issue. Seems like an erlang bug
