Hi Mark,
Plain RabbitMQ, without any plugins, doesn't open outbound sockets for
AMQP traffic. However, if you have it clustered, it will open outbound
sockets for Erlang distribution traffic. Furthermore, even in a
non-clustered setup, there will be Erlang-related localhost traffic to
epmd. Finally, some plugins (e.g. shovel) open outbound sockets to other
hosts.
