It seems that nodes() and net_adm:ping(Node) does not work when using long names (i.e. node was started with -name instead of -sname).
I start up two separate nodes (in two separate terminalk windows) with the same cookie:
erl -name t1 -setcookie test
erl -name t2 -setcookie test
In both cases nodes() returns an empty list. If I try to connect to a node explicitly it fails, e.g.
>net_adm:ping('t2@<my PC name>').
>pang
I can ping myself successfully, but not another node.
This seems to work fine if starting with short names (-sname).
Is there something obvious I am missing here?

For long nodes to function I think they need to resolve in DNS.
And by the way node@host is not a fully qualified domain name which I think long names requires.
A long name would probably be node@host.com or similar. |
