"I have just bought a Panasonic HDC-HS250 camcorder the day before yesterday. And I have been a long time Final Cut Pro user. This is my first go at an HD camcorder and I've been having some problems with getting the video to a editable form in FCP. The AVCHD(*.MTS) format has recently become a very popular format for sharing movies because it works well with retaining the quality of high definition movies. MTS file can be directly playable on VLC media player for Mac or Mplayer OSX, for either of them natively accept MTS file. When comes to iMovie or Quicktime, it isn't compatible with the high-definition MPEG Transport Stream video format. Anyway, if you prefer to Edit MTS files iMovie, you can use the MTS Converter for Mac. Step 1. Add MTS file to MTS Converter

Click the "Add Video" button to load the MTS video files from your camcorder to the Mac MTS Converter. You can import several MTS files simultaneously

Step 2. Select the output formats

Choose the source file and click the "Profile" drop-down list. Then you can choose the mov format.



Step 3. Edit the video effect (Optional)

This software also possesses some basic video editing features. With it, you can trim video length, crop video frame, and adjust video brightness/saturation/contrast, and so on.

Step 4. Convert MTS to MOV on Mac

After all these settings, you can click the "Convert" button to convert .MTS to .MOV on Mac for iMovie or final cut.

Extended Knowledge: What is MTS/M2TS?

The .m2ts file format is given to video/audio files created by certain Sony Camcorder models. An .m2ts file is a Sony high definition video file type. Panasonic, Canon and other brands of AVCHD camcorders also record in m2ts format. Currently, m2ts files can be played using the Picture Motion Browser, which is an application video player provided with Sony AVCHD camcorders.
